Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, was a young Polish nun from a poor but large family. At the age of fifteen, after only three years of school,  she began working to help support her family. It was around this time, that Sister Faustina  first felt called to religious life. She applied to various convents but she was turned down each time. The Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy finally accepted her and she was initiated as a nun on April 30, 1926.

On February 22, 1931, Sister Faustina had a vision of Christ.

"In the evening, when I was in my cell, I became aware of the Lord Jesus clothed in a white garment. One hand was raised in blessing, the other was touching the garment at the breast. From the opening of the garment at the breast there came forth two large rays, one red and the other pale. In silence I gazed intently at the Lord; my soul was overwhelmed with fear, but also with great joy. After a while Jesus said to me, 'paint an image according to the pattern you see, with the inscription: Jesus, I trust in You.'"

Through her visions, Sister Faustina discovered her mission.

"Secretary of My most profound mystery," the Lord Jesus said to Sr. Faustina, "know that your task is to write down everything that I make known to you about My mercy, for the benefit of those who by reading these things will be comforted in their souls and will have the courage to approach Me." (Diary 1693)

The message of the Divine Mercy is a message of God's boundless love and mercy. It is a message of reassurance and a reminder to trust in God. The Divine Mercy also reminds us to show our love for God by being merciful to one another.

How to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet

Based on the writings of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, the Divine Mercy devotion is an intercessory prayer that reminds us of the mercy and love of God. The message of the Divine Mercy is that God's love and mercy are greater than our sins. We need only repent and call upon Him with trust. In turn, we are called to be extend that love and mercy to others.

Prayers of the Chaplet:

Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

The Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace! the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of they womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

The Apostle's Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified; died, and was buried. He descended into Hell; the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
